It’s been quite some time since I have ever written something in my Tumblr account.
There isn’t much of an explanation really to why I’ve been neglecting to write anything for so long other than the fact that I’ve just been so occupied with school and whatnot.
Senior year so far.. how can I word in a way that it’ll be as accurate as it can be to how I’m trying to express it..
Senior year is by far not what I expected it to be, but in the circumstances that are presented to be as of this moment I’m pretty content with how things are going so far throughout the semester.
But today.. omg. Do I have a story to tell.
So today at school was when everyone at school had the chance to donate blood. I’ve always wanted to find a way to give something of mine to someone who might need more than I do. Unfortunately, I don’t have much to offer to anyone so when I found out long ago that I could donate blood I’ve been meaning to try to give some of mine to them so I can help in any way I could to aid someone in need of my blood.
I made sure that this year I would not miss this chance again this year and make myself an appointment. But when I went to class and received my reminder to go I noticed that they needed some form of identification and I didn’t have a sufficient one at hand so I attempted to go ahead and have my information printed out from the office.
Half way there, the campus supervisor, saw me and a group of girls that I asked to tag along with me on our way to the over to the office and yelled at us to go to the soccer field because apparently there was an earthquake drill going on at the same time I was trying to donate blood.
So we were forced to head to the soccer field and find our class and we literally wasted about 20-30 minutes of our time just standing there. When we were finished I got permission from my teacher to head to the office to print out my information but as soon as I got there the people there said they “couldn’t do anything until after the period ends”. Now I wouldn’t be too worried about that and just stay for the remainder of the class period but I had to go back to my class before it ended because that was the only way I was granted to go: Just as long as I get back in the last few minutes of class for attendance.
Hah.., so the group of girls I was with and I decided to head back and I asked my teacher to print out my information. Luckily she was able to and did so for the next 2 hours we spent our time waiting for our turn to get in the RV van and get our blood drawn. Two.. long.. ass.. hours..omg.
As the time passed I kept seeing a group of people individually leaving the van because “their blood pressure was a little bit too high”, “their iron level didn’t make the mark by .1”, or some other crazy thing like that. I began to get worried and wondered if that was to happen to me.
But I eventually got inside of the RV van and got this packet full of questions and other information to read and fill out. After that they pricked my finger, took my blood pressure, and all that good stuff and I ended up dodging all of the hurdles that came up to stop me from donating.. until this happened..
The head nurse checked my arms to see if I had any veins and I again got worried because if they couldn’t find any I would get sent out also. Luckily they found one vein they can work with on my left arm and she pricked the needle in. The whole time when she was preparing to get the needle ready I was so overwhelmed and nervous at what happened that I started having a conversation with the head nurse, the assistant, my friend who was filling out the paperwork to donate, and my classmate in front of me who was making fun of me the whole time because I was so scared about this whole experience, lol. T^T
OH, let me point out when she was preparing for the donation she brought in about 5 empty bags. Seeing that traumatized me because they were fairly big and I thought that they were taking that much blood from me, aha. (She was just trying to get extras for the next batch of kids though.., phew.)
I also asked for the butterfly needle but she said that I couldn’t use it for some reason when my classmate in front of me was getting it because he’s donating more since he towers over me in height and was willing to donate more blood to them.
So anyway, she pricked the needle in and it wasn’t all that bad as I thought it would be. I think I was just so fed up with how much effort I tried to put just to donate blood that the whole thing to me was basically a “I’m done. Let’s just get this over with” kind of thing. The blood though.. seeing that flow was when I was going to faint.. I saw it go through the tubes so fast and I was just so overwhelmed about how much blood they were taking from me but not even when my blood reached the bag it just stopped coming out.
Now.. I know this can’t possibly be true but at the moment I was at that state where I wasn’t even thinking things through and started raising my voice saying, “WOOOAH, OMG. WHY ISN’T MY BLOOD COMING OUT?! DO I NOT HAVE ANY?! AHHHHH!” That’s when I passed out a little bit and when I woke up the people I was talking to was so entertained and started laughing, haha! She then told me that my blood was too thick so that’s why my body didn’t want to give out any blood so she snipped off the tube, took off the needle, wrapped my arm, and said that I could leave.
You don’t know how bummed out I was.. actually I’m still pretty bummed out. I mean, I got a free shirt and everything but I have this void inside of me now because I know deep down inside that I didn’t save anyone. :’( Ugh, I’ll try again next semester and I promise I WILL donate! It’s a mission of mine now, lol! >:)
